Syrian TV says a military helicopter has crashed near Damascus

DAMASCUS, Syria – State-run Syrian TV says a military helicopter has crashed near the capital, Damascus.

The report said the helicopter went down today southeast of Douma, a Damascus suburb.

There were no further details.

The government increasingly has been using helicopters and other aircraft in its fight against an 18-month-old rebellion.

Rebels claim to have shot down helicopters in the past, although the regime has blamed the problems on mechanical difficulties.
