NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE TO TRY TO ENSURE LABOUR PEACE CN RAIL

Canadian National Railway resumes negotiations in Ottawa today with the union representing nearly 5,000 employees. The company has threatened to lockout the workers unless there’s a deal tonight or the union agrees to binding arbitration.Unifor says its president and the head of CN had meaningful dialogue Sunday and agreed to continue talking.

NEW PEI PREMIER SWORN IN TODAY

A new helmsman takes over the government of Prince Edward Island today. Wade MacLauchlan is sworn in as premier, succeeding Robert Ghiz who is stepping down. MacLauchlan was unopposed for the leadership of PEI’s governing Liberals.

The Harper government has quietly taken further measures on federal cabinet secrets to prevent further leaks. A new cabinet security policy requires all possible breaches to be immediately reported to the prime minister’s office. The Canadian Press has obtained a copy of a new policy that also states that documents known to contain cabinet secrets must now be stamped “Confidences of the Queen’s Privy Council.”

ONTARIO GETS A NEW SEX-ED CURRICULUM TODAY

The Ontario government will unveil a revised sex education curriculum today.The Canadian Press has learned that children in grades 1, 2 and 3 will learning about safe Internet use, while students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 students will be taught about the dangers of so called “sexting,” and protecting their privacy online.

ALBERTANS WILL GET AN UPDATE TODAY ON FLOOD MITIGATION PLANS

Alberta Environment Minister Kyle Fawcett will make an announcement today regarding proposed flood mitigation infrastructure projects along the Elbow River.Calgary, Canmore and High River were all devastated by flooding in the summer of 2013.
