After 2 snow days, jury selection will start again in Boston Marathon bombing trial
BOSTON – After two days off due to heavy snow, jury selection is set to begin again in the trial of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (joh-HAHR’ tsahr-NEYE’-ehv).
Tsarnaev is charged in the 2013 attack that killed three people and injured more than 260. Jury selection in Tsarnaev’s federal death penalty trial began Jan. 5.
Jury selection was cancelled Monday and Tuesday after a snowstorm dumped up to 2 feet of snow on Massachusetts. On Wednesday, Judge George O’Toole Jr. will resume questioning prospective jurors individually.
Tsarnaev’s lawyers have repeatedly argued that he cannot receive a fair trial in Boston because of the emotional impact of the bombing and the personal connections many people have to the marathon and people injured in the attack.
O’Toole has rejected three defence requests to move the trial outside Massachusetts.
