TOKYO – Canada’s Milos Raonic advanced to the semifinals of the Japan Open on Friday with a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (7) comeback victory over Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic.
Serving for the match, the 21-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., blasted his 24th ace to finish off the No. 3 seed in two hours 43 minutes.
The No. 6-seeded Raonic will now take on the winner of the quarter-final match between No. 1 seed Andy Murray of Britain and No. 7 Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland.
Raonic, ranked No. 15 in the world, also defeated Tipsarevic earlier this year in a three-hour final at the Chennai Open in India.
Tipsarevic currently sits at No. 9 in the ATP rankings.
