Ikea stores plan to sell only energy-efficient LED lighting by 2016

PHILADELPHIA – Swedish retailer Ikea plans to sell only energy-efficient LED lighting by 2016.

Ikea in 2010 announced plans to have all incandescent bulbs out of its North American stores by 2011.

The company then shifted toward selling only efficient options including compact fluorescent bulbs, LED and halogen lamps.

Now the company will focus on LED lighting due to the longer lifespan.

The retailer on Monday said LED lighting consumes 85 per cent less energy than incandescent bulbs and can last up to 20 times longer.

Ikea has about 38 stores in the U.S.
