Tennessee police chase ends in gunfire, killing driver

SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. – Authorities say a police pursuit in Tennessee ended with an injured officer fatally shooting a female driver and wounding a male passenger.

A statement from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says a Red Bank police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop early Tuesday, but the vehicle fled. The officer pursued with help from other law enforcement agencies. The bureau says the vehicle led officers to a wooded area and struck a Red Bank officer, who then fired, hitting both the driver and passenger.

Officials say all three were taken to the hospital. The woman was pronounced dead. The male passenger is in critical condition. The officer was treated and released.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating.
