Bus strikes truck in Dubai, 5 migrant workers killed

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Police in Dubai say five migrant workers have been killed in a bus accident in the Mideast commercial hub.

The crash happened early Sunday when a bus carrying 20 workers hit a truck, killing four people at the scene. A fifth person died after being rushed to the hospital.

Four others were hospitalized as a result of the accident.

Police did not provide details on the victims. The Khaleej Times newspaper reported that the dead included three Bangladeshis and two Indians.

Roughly nine in ten Dubai residents are foreigners, many of them low-paid Asian guest workers. A number of deadly accidents involving buses crammed with labourers have happened over the years, including one in 2014 that left at least 13 dead.
