Pospisil in opener, possible decider in Canada’s Davis Cup tie with South Africa

MONTREAL – Vasek Pospisil will play three times, including the first and fifth rubbers, in Canada’s upcoming Davis Cup tie with South Africa at Uniprix Stadium.

Vancouver’s Pospisil will lead things off for Canada in a singles match Friday against Izak Van der Merwe. He will also team with Toronto’s Daniel Nestor in Saturday’s doubles match, then face Nikala Scholtz on Sunday in the fifth and possibly deciding rubber.

Milos Raonic will play the other two singles matches, facing Scholtz on Friday and Van der Merwe on Sunday.Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., is Canada’s highest ranked singles player, listed at No. 15 on the ATP circuit.

Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., is also on the Canadian team and will serve as a backup.

Canada can stay in the prestigious World Group with a win over South Africa. A loss would see Canada relegated to the Americas Zone Group I.
