TIFF facts: A look at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival

TORONTO – The Toronto International Film Festival kicks off this week, running Sept. 8 to 18. Here are some facts about this year’s lineup:

— There are 397 films screening in total: 296 features, 101 shorts.

— Of the features, 138 of them are world premieres.

— The films come from 83 countries.

— There are 38 Canadian features, including co-productions.

— Of the Canadian features, 29 of them are making their world premiere, including co-productions.

— There are also 38 Canadian shorts, including co-productions.

— A total of 6,933 films were submitted to the fest: 5,693 of them international, 1,240 of them Canadian.

— 28 screens are being used during the fest.

— The longest film in the lineup is director Lav Diaz’s drama “The Woman Who Left,” which runs 227 minutes.

— The longest screening at the fest is 449 minutes, for the Czech Republic mystery miniseries “Wasteland,” which is in the Primetime television program.

— The shortest films are “Anima, Silueta de Cohetes” and “Silueta Sangrienta,” which are each two minutes long.
