CHISINAU, Moldova – Mouldovan prosecutors have arrested two foreign nationals on suspicion of spreading online propaganda for international terror organizations.
The Moldovan Intelligence Service said in a statement Tuesday that organized crime prosecutors had identified and detained the men, aged 18 and 46, as part of Moldova’s anti-terrorism measures.
Prosecutors found propaganda material and other documents in the place they were living in Chisinau. The men, who were not identified, had been under surveillance for some time. The statement said they admitted wrongdoing. It did not say when they were arrested.
Officials said they had posted messages on social networks and other online platforms that constituted “public justification for terrorism,” a crime punishable by up to five years in prison.
