Colombia’s president rolls out red carpet for Prince Charles

BOGOTA – Colombia’s President is welcoming Prince Charles with full military honours during the British heir’s first official visit to the South American nation.

Colombians accustomed to traffic-induced delays expressed surprise with the royal entourage’s on-time arrival at the presidential palace where he was greeted by President Juan Manuel Santos on Wednesday.

Following the military salute, the two former naval officers held a private meeting where they were expected to discuss issues ranging from protection of the environment to combatting narcotics.

Charles and his wife Camilla will visit the colonial city of Cartagena and the Macarena national park once dominated by Marxist rebels during their five-day stay in Colombia. They then head to Mexico, which Charles has visited four times previously.
