We’ve been listening, Enbridge will tell environmental review panel

EDMONTON – Enbridge officials say they are pleased they’ll have a chance to address the concerns raised about their proposed Northern Gateway pipeline when environmental review hearings resume next week.

Enbridge (TSX:ENB) official Janet Holder says that when the next phase of the review begins this Tuesday it will be the first opportunity for the Calgary-based company to be heard at the review process.

In an opening statement to the panel released today, Enbridge says its heard how concerned people are about the potential for an oil spill, and it acknowledges that an Enbridge spill into the Kalamazoo River in Michigan two years ago only deepened those worries.

People want to know that won’t happen in Canada, and Enbridge says it will answer those questions as the hearings proceed.

The federal environmental review panel has heard from many opponents of the plan to build a pipeline that would deliver crude from Alberta oil sands to a tanker port on the B.C. coast, for deliver to Asian markets.

Enbridge says it will address those concerns.
