Ryerson University unofficially beats Guinness world record for cowbell ensemble

TORONTO – University students in Toronto have unofficially succeeded in an attempt to set a new Guinness world record for the largest cowbell ensemble.

A group of 1,003 students gathered at Ryerson University’s downtown quadrangle Wednesday afternoon for the school’s sixth annual attempt at breaking a world record.

Students shook yellow and blue cowbells for two minutes, unofficially shattering Switzerland’s 2009 record of 640 participants.

The original goal was to have 950 people in the ensemble.

The record will not become official until all paperwork is handled by Guinness World Records, which school officials say can take up to three weeks.

In previous years, Ryerson unofficially beat the world record for largest maracas ensemble and largest plastic sword fight.
