Canada’s Morneau wins NL batting title, sits last two games of the season

Canadian Justin Morneau won the National League batting title, though he wasn’t included in the Colorado Rockies’ lineup for the last two games of the season.

Morneau, from New Westminster, B.C., finished with a .319 average after going 2 for 3with a two-run homer Friday in Colorado’s 7-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pittsburgh’s Josh Harrison finished second at .315. Harrison entered Sunday’s games at .318 but he went 0 for 4 in the Pirates’ 4-1 loss to Cincinnati.

Morneau is the first Canadian to win a batting title since Larry Walker won the last of his three titles with the Rockies in 2001.
