Irish police investigating claims bananas thrown on pitch during Manchester City friendly

LIMERICK, Ireland – Limerick FC says Irish police and Thomond Park officials are investigating CCTV footage after Manchester City defender Gael Clichy said bananas were thrown onto the pitch during a friendly.

Limerick FC and Thomond Park released a statement Monday saying “any individual identified as being involved in an incident of this nature will be banned from future attendance and the matter will be handed over to the Gardai (Irish Police).”

Clichy tweeted after City’s 4-0 win on Sunday: “How sad to see bananas thrown on the pitch tonight … Knowing people around the world need food. (hash)nowordsforthis.”
