U Sports Roundup: Dinos dominate Bisons 34-16 to clinch 1st in Canada West

CALGARY – The Calgary Dinos are once again the kings of Canada West.

Adam Sinagra threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns, while Hunter Karl caught nine passes for 125 yards and a TD as Calgary thrashed the Manitoba Bisons 34-16 in U Sports football action Friday and clinched first in the division for the seventh time in eight years.

Robinson Rodrigues also ran for 70 yards and touchdown for the Dinos (6-0). Alex Basilis had 34 receiving yards and a TD.

Des Catellier was 9-for-23 passing for 121 yards, while Jamel Lyles had 147 yards and touchdown on the ground for the Bisons (3-3). Victor St. Pierre Laviolette also scored a rushing touchdown for Manitoba.

Calgary’s defence came up big early as Boston Rowe scored on 68-yard fumble recovery at 11:30 in the first quarter.

The Dino’s put up 22 unanswered points until Manitoba broke its goose egg on a rouge with 30 seconds left in the second quarter.

Manitoba didn’t score again until Lyles’ 17-yard run for a touchdown capped a three-play, 68-yard drive at 12:55 of the fourth.

WATERLOO, Ont. — Wilfrid Laurier (4-3) scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to erase a 19-15 halftime deficit against Windsor (1-6). Levondre Gordon rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown for the Golden Hawks.

TORONTO — Playing its final game of the regular season, Carleton (5-3) clinched a playoff spot with a win over York (2-5). Michael Arruda threw for three touchdowns for the Ravens.

REGINA — Aldo Galvan kicked four field goals and Seb Britton tossed two touchdowns as Regina (1-5) technically picked up its first win of the season at Alberta’s (2-4) expense. The Ram were forced to forfeit three wins last week due to an ineligible player.
