Burlington Skyway bridge reopens after being closed several days

BURLINGTON, Ont. – The Burlington Skyway bridge connecting Toronto with the Niagara region reopened Monday evening after being closed for several days by a dump truck crash.

The Toronto-bound lanes were closed over the long weekend as workers made temporary repairs to the structure after a dump truck slammed into the scaffolding of the bridge Thursday.

A ministry spokeswoman says the cleanup included removal of vehicles and steel debris, and a thorough structural inspection.

Astrid Poei says additional repairs will be made over the next two months.

Police say the truck driver is charged with impaired driving and exceeding 80 milligrams of blood alcohol content in a motor vehicle.

Poei said that if found guilty, he is liable to cover the cost of the damage.
