Convicted murderer caught in Quebec City after five days on the lam
QUEBEC – A convicted murderer who escaped from a minimum-security prison near Montreal last week has been caught.
Robert Gaudette was arrested without incident Sunday evening on a downtown Quebec City sidewalk.
Gaudette, 55, appeared briefly in court Monday and was to be transferred to Laval, north of Montreal.
He is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday on a charge related to his escape.
Gaudette made off from the Federal Training Centre in Laval last Tuesday, with sources saying he hopped out of a window in his room.
He had been behind bars since receiving a life sentence in 2002 for the second-degree murder of his wife, Cindy Bouchard.
Gaudette was set to have a parole hearing soon.
