HAMILTON – Scott Piercy and William McGirt shared the early lead in the second round of the RBC Canadian Open after matching the tournament’s 36-hole scoring record.
Piercy (67) and McGirt (66) each posted 11-under 129 at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
That matched the previous best shot by Chez Reavie (2008) and Scott Dunlap (1996) in Canadian Opens staged at Glen Abbey.
Piercy and McGirt were one shot ahead of Robert Garrigus (66) and two shots better than Vijay Singh (67), who is seeking his first PGA Tour victory since 2008.
The low Canadian after Friday’s morning starters were amateur Albin Choi (68) of Toronto and Matt McQuillan (67) of Kingston, Ont.
Those players finished at 3-under 137 and were eight shots back of the leaders.
