Preliminary inquiry for B.C. man accused of setting fire that killed woman

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A preliminary inquiry is underway for a man accused of killing a woman after he allegedly set a house on fire in Kamloops, B.C.

David Gordon is facing arson and manslaughter charges in connection with the blaze on April 25, 2013.

Police allege Gordon set fire to the house, from where an unconscious and severely injured woman was pulled.

Cheryl William, 44, was taken off life support four days later.

Police said Gordon and William did not know each other but lived in the home, which was divided into three suites. Two other residents from another suite escaped unharmed.

Gordon was arrested a short time after the fire was reported.

Preliminary inquiries are covered by a mandatory publication ban.

They are held for a judge to determine whether the Crown has enough evidence to proceed to trial.

Gordon remains in custody. (Kamloops This Week)
