RCMP welcomes first African-Canadian commanding officer in Prince Edward Island

CHARLOTTETOWN – The RCMP has installed its first African-Canadian commanding officer.

Supt. Craig Gibson took command of the Mounties in Prince Edward Island today during a formal ceremony along Charlottetown’s waterfront.

RCMP commissioner Bob Paulson says Gibson leads by example and he is proud of what the officer has accomplished in his career.

Gibson has been with the RCMP for more than 30 years, working in Saskatchewan, Ottawa and Atlantic Canada.

He takes over for Chief Supt. Tracy Hardy, who has moved to Newfoundland and Labrador to be that province’s commanding officer.
