MIAMI – Tropical Storm Elida has formed off the southwestern coast of Mexico and is expected to produce high surf and heavy rains.
Elida was centred Monday afternoon about 120 miles (195 kms) off the coast of Manzanillo, Mexico, and had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 kph). It was moving northwest at 12 mph (19 kph).
Elida was not expected to strengthen over the next two days as it changed course toward the southwest but was forecast to stay close to the coast, generating high surf and as much as 8 inches of rain in some areas.
