Residents near Barrie, Ont., home set to return after police search ends

BARRIE, Ont. – Police have finished searching a Barrie, Ont., house filled with explosives and indicate the neighbourhood is now safe for nearly 60 evacuated residents to return home.

Police say special teams of investigators have wrapped up their search of the property after finding at least 83 improvised explosive devices and a quantity of unidentified chemicals.

Police scouring the home have also found 29 firearms including rifles, shotguns and a type of submachine gun, along with thousands of rounds of ammunition.

The search began last Thursday after police arrested a father and son in connection with the 1978 slaying of Michael Traynor.

Donald Feldhoff, 54, was charged with first-degree murder after turning himself in to police. His 75-year-old father William has been charged as an accessory after the fact.
