TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (15,109.25, up 53.36 points):

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up 10 cents, or 3.61 per cent, to $2.87 on 12.9 million shares.

Fortis Inc. (TSX:FTS.IR). Utilities. Up $1.05, or 2.84 per cent, to $38 on 10.9 million shares.

Belo Sun Mining Corp. (TSX:BSX). Miner. Up 1.5 cents, or 8.11 per cent, to 20 cents on 5.4 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace. Down two cents, or 0.52 per cent, to $3.83 on 3.9 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 19 cents, or 2.16 per cent, to $8.99 on 3.8 million shares.

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB). Communication equipment. Up 26 cents, or 2.97 per cent, to $9 on 3.7 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (1,006.05, up 7.36 points):

Spartan Energy Corp. Oil and gas. Up eight cents, or 1.91 per cent, to $4.26 on 8.4 million shares.

Sphere Resources Inc. Miner. Unchanged at one cent on 6.6 million shares.

Chartwell Retirement Residences (TSX:CHS.UN). Real estate. Up 10 cents, or 0.92 per cent, to $11 on 207,039 shares. The company says it’s selling four U.S. seniors housing properties, including 827 suites in Alabama, Michigan, Oklahoma and Tennessee, for US$136.1 million. Chartwell says the sale to U.S.-based Focus Healthcare Partners and Garrison Street Partners will allow it to focus on its other seniors housing properties in the United States

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (TSX:VRX). Drug manufacturer. Down 57 cents, or 0.44 per cent, to $128.53 on 535,509 shares. The company took its hostile takeover bid for Allergan directly to shareholders, sparking what could be a long battle for control of the California-based Botox maker after the Allergan board repeatedly refused to negotiate a deal.
