Hillary Clinton tells Edmonton audience North America can lead on clean energy

EDMONTON – Former U.S. secretary of state Hillary Clinton says her country and Canada need to seize the moment to become global leaders in clean energy.

Clinton, speaking to an audience in Edmonton, said it’s a given that industrialized nations will continue to use fossil fuels.

She says that doesn’t mean North America can’t be at the vanguard for an orderly transition away from them.

She says both nations have the research skills, creativity and innovation to make that happen.

She also talked about the proposed Keystone XL pipeline, which would take crude from Alberta across the continent to refineries in Texas.

She acknowledged that Keystone is a contentious project, but added the controversy shouldn’t be allowed to define the energy relationship between Canada and the U.S.
