UPDATE: Police confirm they are investigating a homicide in West Kelowna neighbourhood

WEST KELOWNA – Mounties have now confirmed a man found dead in a vehicle in Glenrosa last night died by homicide.

Early this morning, Sept. 2, police said they responded to a report of shots fired last night at 8:15 and his death was suspicious. Late this afternoon, police confirmed it was homicide.

“RCMP have since positively identified the deceased whose death is now being classified by police as a homicide,” said spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. “Preliminary findings suggest that the incident was, in fact, a targeted attack. The victim, a 27-year-old West Kelowna man, who investigators believe lived a high risk lifestyle, was well known to police.”

The man and the vehicle were found in the 3400 block of McTaggart Road. Glenrosa Elementary School is not far away from the scene.

The General Investigations Section of the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment is working with the B.C. Coroners Service. Both are being supported by the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crimes Unit and forensic investigators with the Kelowna RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Services section, according to this afternoon's release.

Updated information will be provided as it becomes available.
