The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Portland Winterhawks 3-2 on Sunday in Portland, sweeping both games of a weekend double-header and stretching its win streak to six games.
Nick Merkley had a goal and an assist and was named the game’s first star while Brodan Salmond earned the win in net, stopping 42 of 44 shots on net.
The Rockets trailed 2-1 heading for the third period before scoring twice to earn the win. Merkley tied it with his second goal in as many games before Soustal scored the game winning goal midway through the third.
Rodney Southam also scored for the Rockets who were 1-for-3 on the power play and limited Portland to 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
The Rockets outshot Portland 45-44.
The win improves Kelowna’s record to 9-7-0-0 as they return to Kelowna for a Tuesday night game against WHL BC Division rival Kamloops.
