KELOWNA – The Kelowna Rockets main training camp kicks off Monday with fitness testing and player registration as the Rockets continue to get set for the 2014-15 Western Hockey League season.
The Rockets closed its annual rookie camp on Sunday with several of the 100 young hockey players invited to the main camp including Rockets' 2014 first round pick Jonathan Smart and 2014 draft pick Jordan Sandu. The first ice sessions begin Monday at Prospera Place and continue through Friday this week.
The rookie camp featured 15-year-old players who are returning to their respective minor hockey associations, while the Rockets veterans and older prospects will now take-over Prospera Place for the next week.
Rockets camp will continue until Friday when the team will break camp and get set for the start of the WHL exhibition season.
Kelowna opens its pre-season schedule on Saturday Aug. 30 as the team will host Kamloops at Prospera Place in the first of six exhibition contests.
The Rockets open the WHL regular season at home to Kamloops on Sept. 20.
