WESTWOLD, B.C. – The RCMP say a man and woman are in custody after shots were allegedly fired from a vehicle Tuesday as it fled from officers in British Columbia’s north Okanagan.
Police say they were notified of a suspicious vehicle shortly before 8 a.m. in the Falkland area, which they tried to stop using roadblocks.
Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP says officers were able to stop the vehicle just east of Westwold using a device that deflates tires.
She says two people inside the vehicle were taken into custody without further incident after the vehicle was stopped.
The RCMP say they are not aware of any serious injuries as a result of the incident.
Highway 97 remained closed to traffic Tuesday afternoon between Falkland and Westwold.
The RCMP say Westwold Elementary School was ordered locked down during the incident as a precaution, but the order has since been lifted.
