5th body recovered from Mexican mine collapse

MEXICO CITY – The governor of the Mexican state of Hidalgo says that a fifth body has been recovered after a portion of a marble mine collapsed a day earlier.

Gov. Omar Fayad said via Twitter Friday that the state would support the victims’ families.

On Thursday the open pit mine in a locality known as Dengantzha in the Francisco I. Madero township partially collapsed over a road within the mine. Four of those killed were riding in a vehicle on that road. The other victim was a shepherd.

There were no other known victims. The state prosecutor’s office is investigating the cause of the accident.
