Former Tropical Storm Carlotta dissipates off Mexico coast

MEXICO CITY – Former Tropical Storm Carlotta weakened into a remnant low off Mexico’s southwestern Pacific coast Monday night, though forecasters said its rains still posed a threat of flash flooding and mudslides on shore.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said the system’s maximum sustained winds had dropped to 25 mph (35 kph). It was about 95 miles (150 kilometres) west of the port city of Lazaro Cardenas and was moving to the northwest at 3 mph (6 kph).

Carlotta was the third named storm of the Pacific hurricane season.
