HENDERSON, N.C. – One man was killed and a police officer wounded in a shooting in North Carolina.
Henderson Police Chief M.W. Barrow said in a news release that officers were trying to serve a search warrant around 9:15 p.m. Thursday when someone fired at the officers.
One officer was hurt. Police returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect.
Barrow said the officer and the suspect were taken to a local hospital, where the suspect died. The officer was treated and released from the Maria Parham Medical Center hospital early Friday.
The names and races of the officer and suspect haven’t been released.
Barrow said the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation reviews the shooting.
Henderson is about 40 miles (65 kilometres) northeast of Raleigh.
