HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Latest on a police shooting in Alabama (all times local):

Authorities have identified a man killed by police in Alabama.

The county coroner’s office in Huntsville says 31-year-old Haraesheo Milton Rice was fatally shot by police Wednesday night. A police spokesman says the man had a gun and wouldn’t drop it.

Court records show police arrested Rice multiple times through the years. Rice filed a federal lawsuit against Madison County last month saying he was mentally ill and complaining about what he called inadequate medical treatment and a beating by officers in the county jail in 2015.

The county has yet to respond to the complaint.

Police shot and killed Rice after responding to a report of another shooting that left a man dead. Authorities identify that victim as 47-year-old Keith Ricks. A third person was wounded.

Police say two people are dead and a third person wounded in north Alabama after shootings that involved police.

Huntsville police Lt. Stacy Bates says officers were responding to reports of a shooting on the city’s northwest side Wednesday night when they encountered a man with a gun.

Bates tells WAFF-TV that police shot and killed the suspect. Bates said that after that happened, police found a second man dead of gunshot wounds, but that person wasn’t killed by the officers.

Police also found a third man who had been shot by an unknown suspect and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Bates told the station late Wednesday that police had many unanswered questions.

No other information about the officers or suspects was immediately released.
