Day care worker accused of hitting, torturing toddlers

MIAMI – A day care worker at a private charter school in Miami Beach has been arrested after officers reviewed video surveillance footage that appears to show her slapping, elbowing and twisting the arms of four toddlers.

Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez tells news outlets that Lincoln Marti Daycare worker Clara Luz Quintero-Gonzalez was arrested Thursday.

The 54-year-old Quintero-Gonzalez is charged with four counts of child abuse, and one count each of child neglect and torture. Rodriguez says all of the victims were 2 or 3 years old.

Officers were alerted to the situation last week when they responded to a fight an angry mother got into with Quintero-Gonzalez upon watching the footage. No one was arrested following that altercation.

Police say Quintero-Gonzalez denied hitting the children.
