A Vancouver cop went undercover in a wheelchair on the Downtown Eastside and this is what happened
VANCOUVER – An undercover operation launched in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside was aimed at catching criminals who prey on people in wheelchairs, but the results were not what the cops were expecting.
Thirty-year VPD veteran Staff Sgt. Mark Horsley went undercover as a wheelchair-dependent resident of the neighbourhood for five days, according to a media release.
Police say Horsley was prepared to get robbed, beaten up and taken advantage of, but instead experienced nothing but generosity and care from people in the community.
“While the project didn’t result in the arrests that were expected, officers were reminded of the kindness in those who make the Downtown Eastside their home,” Horsley says in the release.
