Rising water forces closure of Greenway underpasses

KELOWNA – The rising water in Mission Creek from the spring runoff means two underpasses on the popular Greenway trail have been closed.

The trail under the Casorso Road bridge is fully closed, while the south side of the trail along Mission Creek under the Gordon Drive bridge is closed.

Both sections of the trail will remain closed until it’s safe to re-open them.

Barricades and signs are up warning people about the hazards.

Bruce Smith with the Regional District of the Central Okanagan says staff is monitoring creek levels.

“People are reminded that water levels may rise unexpectedly and they, children and pets should stay safely back from creek banks, which may be slippery or subject to erosion from the spring runoff,” Smith says.

The runoff is also sending debris into Okanagan Lake so boaters need to watch out.
