VANCOUVER – Fortuna Silver Mines Inc. says its San Jose silver and gold mine in southwestern Mexico is resuming operations today.
In a brief report late Wednesday, it said an illegal blockade of roads in the municipality of San Jose del Progreso that prevented access to the mine has ended.
Earlier this week, the Canadian company said a group of people led by the former mayor of San Jose del Progreso had erected the blockades to protest state actions to revoke his appointment as mayor.
Local media illustrated the story on their web pages with pictures of gravel trucks parked across a road.
Fortuna had left some employees on site to oversee safety and environmental systems and to ensure a prompt return to activity when the blockade was lifted.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 26, 2020.
