Taxi driver ticketed after collision with Mounties at Vancouver Island red light

NANAIMO, B.C. – Four Nanaimo, B.C., Mounties are suffering from back and neck injuries following a collision involving a taxi on central Vancouver Island.

Police say the officers were in an unmarked vehicle and stopped at a red light on Highway 19A when they were hit from behind by a taxi.

The officers suffered soft-tissue injuries, and police say paramedics transported the members to hospital for treatment.

Police say the officers were released from hospital by mid-afternoon and are expected to be off work for several days.

The 59-year-old driver of the taxi was not injured in the accident and declined medical treatment.

Police say they have issued the taxi driver a ticket for not stopping at a red light.
