B.C. man pleads guilty to murdering his dad, but says it wasn’t intentional
DUNCAN, B.C. – A Nanaimo, B.C., man has plead guilty to killing his father.
Alphonse Brendon Menard was set to stand trial on a second-degree murder charge but plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in the opening minutes of his trial Tuesday.
Fifty-two-year-old Tony Menard was shot multiple times with a semi-automatic rifle near Nitnat Lake on southwest Vancouver Island during a camping trip in July 2010.
Menard’s lawyer Bert King told a B.C. Supreme Court judge in Duncan that while his client is responsible for his father’s death, it wasn’t intentional.
The father and son were apparently doing some target shooting when the murder occurred.
Menard will be sentenced on Sept. 21. (CKWV)
