Firefighters make quick work of UBC Okanagan brush fire

KELOWNA – Kelowna fire crews jumped all over a small brush fire at the UBC Okanagan campus this afternoon.

Capt. Al Chatham with Kelowna Fire Resuce says firefighters were called to a wooded area between the F and H parking lots on the west side of the campus around 12:45 p.m., April 30, after campus security spotted the blaze.

Strong winds fanned the flames and the fire grew to almost 250 square metres in size before it was under control. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

A bush truck and and an engine from the Rutland Fire Hall responded with five firefighters who continue mopping up and looking for hot spots.
