Missing Vernon dirt biker facing charges

VERNON – The dirt biker who showed up at home yesterday after he was missing for over 36 hours is facing charges for breaching his bail conditions.

Kyle Macinnes, 25, went missing April 21 after telling his family he was going for a ride in the rugged Commonage area south of Vernon. They were concerned and notified police the next day when he didn’t return home.

A search was launched involving the police and Vernon Search and Rescue with assistance from two other SAR groups, along with volunteers from the Canadian Air Search and Rescue group from Vernon.

RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk can’t say much about the circumstances around Macinnes’ 36-hour disappearance because it’s before the courts, but noted police know where he was.

“He was where he shouldn’t have been,” Molendyk says. “I don’t think he ever went missing. I don’t think he was ever in danger.”

Macinnes was on court ordered conditions from previous, undisclosed charges and allegedly broke them while he was gone.

“Here we have a report of a concerned family, they were legitimately concerned, so they called us. We rely on the resources of caring people in our community who volunteered their time to go looking for a missing or injured person, only to have the individual not take that into consideration, and was breaching conditions,” Molendyk says.

Macinnes is scheduled to appear in court Friday, April 24, facing four counts of failing to comply with recognizance of bail.
