iN VIDEO: Fire at building under construction in Penticton

South Main Street in Penticton is closed to non-local traffic this morning while fire crews take care of a structure fire.

The Penticton Fire Department received the call at 6:14 a.m. today, Nov. 10, assistant chief Rob Trupp said in an email.

The building was two-storey row house under construction at the corner of South Main Street and Dauphin Avenue.

There were black spots all over the snow on neighbouring properties from the embers.

It was a "well-involved fire" when the first firefighters arrived on scene, Trupp said. "Initial operations were defensive and protecting exposures on north and south side."

There was a two-engine initial response with which included six firefighters, and then a third alarm call back for additional firefighters.

"Excellent work by on scene crews managed to keep the fire confined to the new construction building, no injuries," he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

City crews were called in to manage ice build up and slippery roads. Crews left the scene around 10:30 a.m. and security will be in place until the investigation is complete.
