Rain in Kamloops, Okanagan should ease for weekend as temperatures drop

Snow in the mountain passes and frost on the ground are forecast for Kamloops and the Okanagan over the next couple of days.

The Environment Canada forecast shows drier weather with some sunshine on the weekend.

There’s also expected to be smoke from wildfires throughout out the region through Friday.

While there’s a chance of showers today, Oct. 20, the rain is expected to start tomorrow morning in Kamloops and in the early to late afternoon in the Okanagan.

“As a colder airmass arrives with a Pacific weather system on Friday, periods of snow will likely give some accumulations from Friday afternoon to Saturday over the elevated highway passes,” an Environment Canada special weather statement says.

The snow is expected to start late in the morning on Friday, bringing two centimetres of snow to Alison Pass on Highway 3 and the Coquihalla Highway summit between Merritt and Kamloops.

The summit of the Coquihalla between Hope and Merritt is expected to get 3 cm of snow.

While wet snow is forecast for the Okanagan Connector the alert does not say how much is expected.
