RCMP, coroner investigating death at Penticton hospital

A patient admitted to the psychiatric unit at Penticton Regional Hospital died earlier this week.

RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating following the death of the person in the in-patient psychiatric unit at the hospital on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 10, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say investigators are in close communication with Interior Health.

The health authority called the police immediately following the unidentified person’s death.

RCMP have released very few details about the person’s death other than to say there were no threats to harm staff or patients on the unit.

“Penticton RCMP will continue to work in collaboration with Interior Health on best practices that consider the safety of all visitors, patients and staff,” Penticton RCMP media relations officer Const. James Grandy said in the release.
