Penticton woman tasered by police after stabbing shelter worker
A staffer was stabbed at a Penticton shelter this past weekend and a 36-year-old woman has been arrested.
Officers were called the shelter in the 1700 block of Main Street Sunday afternoon, Oct. 9, to a report of a stabbing, according to an RCMP press release.
They arrived to find a woman had barricaded herself inside of a room.
“Police conducted multiple attempts to connect with the woman to de-escalate the situation,” Penticton RCMP media relations officer Const. Dayne Lyons said in the release. “In one incident, when police made contact with her she ran at police with another weapon in an attempt to harm the officer.”

Police decided the suspect's behaviour was violent enough to warrant the use of a Taser. She was taken into custody with no further injuries to herself or others. RCMP did not say how badly the shelter worker was injured.
Sheri Haselhan, 36, from Penticton remained in custody over the long weekend and is expected to appear in court today, Oct. 12, facing charges of assault with a weapon and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
