Two men caught with multiple firearms in North Kamloops

Police seized weapons from two men in Kamloops while on an early morning patrol today.

A Kamloops RCMP officer was patrolling the North Shore when he saw a "suspicious" white pickup in an alley, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

The officer investigated the area behind the 1000 block of Surrey Avenue around 3 a.m., Sept. 22, where he spotted a man carrying a firearm.

The first man was known to police, but the officer later found more weapons and a second suspect.

“Further investigation that followed led to the discovery of more weapons, including a handgun located on one of the suspects, a long gun, ammunition, and a machete," Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

Michael George Luttman, 38, is facing five weapons charges, including possession of a loaded weapon without authorization and possessing while prohibited. Luttman has faced previous firearms offences in Kamloops and Chase, according to court records.

Kevin James Beattie, 22, is facing three charges of possessing ammunition while prohibited. Beattie has faced dozens of previous criminal charges. Most of them were in northern B.C. communities, but most since 2017 have been in Kamloops courts, according to court records.
