Kamloops police dog celebrates International Dog Day by catching suspect

A Kamloops police service dog was able to catch a suspect this morning, right in time for International Dog Day.

Police officers were called to the 2000 block of Crescent Drive for a report of a suspicious man at around 8 a.m. today, Aug. 26, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release. The caller was concerned for the man's well-being.

The 26-year-old man was found to have a warrant for for failing to comply with a court order and fled from a police officer on foot, RCMP said. Police dog services were called and additional officers flooded the scene.

Two-year-old police dog Neeka was able to track the man off of Highlands Drive where he was found hiding in the bush. He was taken into custody without incident.

“We will make sure that Neeka gets an extra treat to celebrate her arrest and International Dog Day, but there is no better treat for a police dog than catching a bad guy,” said Sgt. Janelle Shoihet, of the Kamloops RCMP, in a press release.

Dylan Clifton, of Kamloops, is expected to appear in court later today to answer to his unendorsed warrant.
