Community members and travellers help extinguish two blazes along Highway 33

The Joe Rich Fire Department is thanking members of the community and travellers for extinguishing two blazes along Highway 33 last night.

The fire department responded to two grass fires, Aug. 19, along the highway at Thelwell Road, according to the department's Facebook page.

"A massive thanks to the speedy thinking and action of more than 10 community members and passers by — because of them, the fires were unable to spread."

"They quickly used nearby water and hand tools to help extinguish the fire. JRFD members promptly arrived on scene thereafter and thoroughly extinguished both fires with fire apparatus," according to the fire department.

Temperatures are predicted to rise next week. Daily highs are expected to reach the mid-30s C early next week in Kamloops and the low 30s C in the Okanagan.
