Penticton’s Rona fined more than $330,000 by WorkSafe B.C.

The Rona Home Centre in Penticton has to pay more than $330,000 in administrative penalties issued by WorkSafe B.C. for failing to repair or replace dangerous storage racks.

An inspector with WorkSafe paid a visit to the Rona outlet's work yard and saw a large storage rack had visible damage to its “vertical members and cross-bracing,” according to a WorkSafe B.C. media release issued today, June 7.

The inspector issued a “stop-use” order for the rack.

WorkSafe said there was no information posted or visible to workers about the racks’ rated capacity. There were no loading and unloading instructions posted from the manufacturer. Also missing was any visible information about the maintenance required.

They were all repeat violations, according to WorkSafe.

The $330,507.98 administrative penalty was issued to Rona Inc. on May 19.
