Arson blamed for multiple fires in Lake Country neighbourhood

LAKE COUNTRY – A fire involving a motorhome, a house and a hedge in Lake Country Friday morning may have been deliberately set.

Lake Country Deputy Fire Chief Brent Penner says the call came in just before 1 a.m. and fire crews were dispatched to an address on Lang Court.

“The residents did a really good job of letting people know what was going on,” he says. “We didn’t evacuate anyone, they were already out of their homes by the time we arrived. There was a secondary fire (in a hedge) down the road, but local residents put that out as we were arriving.”

Penner says it is still unclear where the fires originated but Global Okanagan is reporting that an accelerant was used. Total damage is estimated at approximately $1 million.

Both the house and the motorhome are covered by insurance and the family inside at the time were able to escape without injury.
